Home Learning Information
Children will receive four pieces of homework every week:
Dictionary work
Asking them to explain their work to you e.g. methods, choice of vocabulary
Using maths in real life contexts e.g. counting change from shopping and weighing cooking ingredients
Asking questions about their reading
Making your child take responsibility for their belongings
Making sure your child can tie their shoelaces (if required)
- Reading
- Spellings
- Maths
- Blogging (writing).
This will be given out every Friday and must be completed by the following Friday.
1) We expect the children to do a minimum of 10 minutes reading each night. It is very important that you ask your children questions about the book they are reading. This will reassure you that they understand the text and it helps them to develop their inferring and deducing skills. Please sign your child's Reading Record every time they read and the children will be given the chance to swap their book at least once a week should they need to.
2) Spellings are given every Friday which must be learnt and practiced using sentences DAILY as we carry out a Spellcheck the following Friday.
3) Maths homework will be updated on Mathletics on a Friday and the children have a week to complete the set activities as well as play some of the games on 'Live Mathletics'. Please let us know if your child has problems accessing the internet so that we can ensure they have alternative homework!
The children will have a Times tables test every Friday to ensure that they are progressing. Times tables are the foundation of most of the Maths we will do this year so it is vital that your children know them.
4) Writing homework will take place via class blogs. A post will be put on the blog site on a Friday. If you do not have internet access, children can submit this on paper.
