Book Reviews
This week your task is to write a book review. It should be about a paragraph long and include:

·Title and author

·What the book was about

·What you thought of the book

·What ages/types of people you think should read it

·If you would recommend it to a friend

Here is an example book review:

If I Never Forever Endeavour by Holly Meade

This book was about a bird who didn't yet know how to fly.

The bird has to decide if it will try to fly, but it was not sure if it wants to. The bird thought, "If I never forever endeavour" then I won't ever learn. On one wing, he worries he might fail and on the other wing he thinks of how he may succeed. He worries that if he tries, he may get lost in the world. That makes him want to stay in his nest where he's safe.
I think this book would help other children to learn that trying new things can be scary, but sometimes when we try, we can find things that make us happy too. And this book will help others know that mistakes are okay and part of learning.
My favourite part is that the bird tried and learned that she could fly. I also liked that I read this book because it gave me a chance to talk to people about making mistakes and how I don't like making them. Then I learned they are good and part of learning.
Boys and girls who are 3 to 8 years old would like this book because it teaches about trying a new thing and how it's important to get past being scared so you can learn new things.
I give the book 5 stars since I think it's important for other children to learn about courage.

  1. The Twits by Roald Dahl

The book is about the Twits trying to have bird pie.

The Twits love bird pie and every day when they see birds singing on the dead tree they catch them and turn them into bird pie. After the Twits gobble it all up. I think children age 4 to 10 should read this book. This book would help children to understand that children should not behave like Twits.
I give this book 5 stars since I read this book.

  2. "The 26-Storey Treehouse" by Andy Griffiths, illustrated by Terry Denton.

This book is about two best friends called Andy and Terry who live in a fantastic treehouse.

At the beginning they had a 13 floor house (part 1) but they rebuild to 26 floors.
It wasn`t an ordinary, wooden treehouse. It was a great villa full of incredible rooms, swimming pools, platforms and ski jump ramps.
In 26-storey treehouse you can also find a race course, anti gravity chamber, the mud fight arena, recording studio, ice rink, swimming pool full of sharks, deadly maze and my favourite: Gooffy Goofer, room with 78 flavours of ice-creams.
In this house Andy writes books and Terry draws illustrations
for them. But not only that! they are having a grat fun using all those attractions but they also get into troubles.
In this part of Andy's and Terry's adventures we find out how the boys have meet for the first time and how they had to fight with the pirates in the middle of the ocean.

I think this book is for children from 6 to 10 years old.
I read this book during the summer holiday and it was great fun. I couldn't stop laughing and that's why I give this book 10 stars.
I can't wait to read the next part.

  3. "Sleepovers"by Jacqueline Wilson
The book was about five girls who had a sleepover parties for their birthday. Their names were Amy, Bella ,Chloe,Daisy,Emily and they were the best friends.During the sleepover party they stayed up late and played games. Some of them were making pizza ,talking ,playing in the tent, doing hair, Dancing and painting nails .The girls were very good friends to each other but Chloe was mean ,so she was excluded from the team.
I think this book teaches children about friendship and behaviour. To have friends you have to be kind and nice to them.
I think the book is for girls because it talks about doing make up and boys wouldn't like to read about it. This book could be read by children aged 6 to 9.
I give this book five stars because it was fun to read and it teaches you about friendship and behaviour.

  4. The Mystery mob by Roger Hurn
This book is all about Anita who is an unscrupulous lady. She steals Buster, the mystery mobs invention. Without Buster, Plenty O’Dosh, the judge, will think Anita has done a brilliant job when she hasn’t but the Mystery Mob have. Will the Mystery Mob get to the bottom of this mystery?
I think this is an interesting book because it tells you not to lie or the consequences will be bad. If I were to mark it out of 5, I would give it 5.
I reckon 4 to 9 year olds should enjoy reading it.
This is a book should help other to read fluently. If I was the author of this book I would encourage other people to read it.

  6. George’s Marvellous Medicine by Roald Dahl
It’s about a boy who hates his grandma. He meant to give his grandma her regular medicine at 12 O’ clock. Somehow, he makes a new medicine and replaces it with the old one to give her a shock. I think the book is interesting and hilarious. It contains some really funny poems (e.g. so give me a bug and a jumping flea,
Give me 2 snails and a lizard 3…).
I think every signal person at any age should read it. I would highly recommend to all my friends. In addition to this, I rate it a 5 stars.

  7. Book:The Gruffalo's Child
    Author:Julia Donaldson
The book is about a dad who is a Gruffalo telling his child about his adventure in the dark woods whereby he came across a big bad mouse...Who was strong with a scaly tail, his eyes were like pools of fire and his whiskers were tougher then wire.
I thought it was in instresting and fun to read.
I would recommend this book for age 5 years upwards. I would recommend this to my friend because it's a very enjoyable story. It teaches children that they should listen to their parents and not to wander off to the woods on their own as it can be dangerous.

  8. Tom & jerry - The Cheese Making House, by Bill Matheny.

This book is based around two characters who fight about everything. Tom is an angry and
frustrated cat, on the other hand Jerry is constantly annoying Tom and getting up to tricks.
Jerry received a package. When he opened it he saw Tuffy, Jerry’s friend. Menacingly, Tom
    scares away Jerry and Tuffy.

I thought it was fantastic because it has humorous acts, for example, Jerry tempts Tom with some stinky cheese to distract him from catching them.

The book would be ideal for age 7+.

I would recommend this book to my friends because the illustrations are brilliant and like the real movie.

This book is about a boy named James and a giant peach. James lived with his mum and dad however they died when he was young. He went to live with his aunts who treated him like a slave. One day he found a peach on a big tree and everyday it grew bigger and bigger!.
I thought that this book was very interesting and I especially liked the part when James shrunk into the peach, where he met lots of creatures who became his friends.
I think this book can be enjoyed by people of all ages whether they are reading to a child or to enjoy themselves.

  11. The Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

The book is about a hungry caterpillar that ate so much that he couldn’t even move.

I think that the book was funny because he grew really fat.

I think people from 3-5 should read this book because it teaches them the days of the week, the fruits name and even counting from 1 to 7.

I would recommend it to my little friends because they can learn counting and have fun with the story.

  12. Horrid Henry by Francesca Simon
It centers on a boy (Henry) whose bad behavior is played for laughs and whose temper causes him to turn into a monster. He will do anything to get out of compulsory tasks even if it means sabotaging other people's plans, He often calls people names and complaining about all the things he dislikes. His parents have little control over him.
Iam not a big fan of the book i and didnt like it as Henry is a bad role model and is mean to others.I think this Book is for kids older than 12, as they will know Henrys bechavior is bad and wont copy it like younger kids.I think that the book should be read by mature young adults who know whats right and wrong.I would not recommend this book to a friend.

  13. Gilbert the Hero by Jane Clarke and Charles Fuge

This book was about a shark called Gilbert and how it rescued it's little brother Finn
    from an orca.

I thought the book was scary and exciting. Gilbert and Rita took little Finn to the park
to play but Finn was too young to enjoy the games. So they put him in a seaweed
Swing. Suddenly a massive black whale saw Finn and wanted to eat him up.
Gilbert was heroic because he was brave by dragging Finn from the orca and
hiding in the wreck. Gilbert really loved his baby brother.

I think the book is for children that are 4 to 10 years old because it teaches us to be
    brave and strong.

I would recommend it to a friend because I enjoyed the adventure and the terrifying
    whale.

  20. The Owl babies written by Martin Waddell and illustrated by Patrick Benson
This is the story of three baby owls named Sarah the oldest, Percy the tallest and Baby Bill the smallest who wake up one night in their hole to find that their mother has gone. Baby Bill kept on saying” I want my mummy”, but the other two are more philosophical about her absence, saying that she is probably out hunting and will come back. They step out of their nest into the big dark wood to wait for her. Sarah suggests they share a branch together, which is more cosy. Quite soon, mama owl flies back reassuring them that although she goes away, of course she will always come back.
This is a lovely story, illustrated with charming and intricate penwork, contrasting with silhouettes of the night. This is a brilliant book! About 5-7 children should read this stunning story. This book should have been rated 5 stars or at least 4 stars because this story is to tell no matter if your mother goes away she will always come back and to believe that, do something, time will fly and your mother will arrive.

  22. The Giving Tree
    By Shel Silverstein

This book is about a boy and a tree. Everyday the boy climbs and swings on it and eats the apples. Over time he even cuts the branches to make a house, or chops it down to build a boat. In the end there is nothing but a stamp and even then the boy uses it as a seat, and the tree doesn't mind.

This was read to me all the time by my mum when I was little. Now I read it myself.
There are different ways to look at this book. First it could be sad because the boy keeps taking and never gives back. Or you could see it like me, which is about being generous and kind.
I would definitely recommend this book, and people of all ages would like it.
