POETRY
Have a look at the following poems. One of them is a shape poem, one is a narrative poem and one is a haiku poem. Can you decide which is which?
TASK:
Firstly, choose one of the poems and explain whether it is a narrative, shape or haiku poem. Give reasons for your answers.
Next, describe any poetic techniques you have found in the poem. (Rhyme, repetition, rhythm, descriptive language, simile, metaphor, personification, onomatopoeia, alliteration).
Then, find another example of a narrative, shape or haiku poem, copy it or print it and bring it to school.

2) Beaches by Kaitlyn Guenther
Sand scatters the beach
Waves crash on the sandy shore
Blue water shimmers
3) The Broken-Legg’d Man by John Mackey Shaw
I saw the other day when I went shopping in the store
A man I hadn't ever, ever seen in there before,
A man whose leg was broken and who leaned upon a crutch-
I asked him very kindly if it hurt him very much.
"Not at all!" said the broken-legg'd man.
I ran around behind him for I thought that I would see
The broken leg all bandaged up and bent back at the knee;
But I didn't see the leg at all, there wasn't any there,
So I asked him very kindly if he had it hid somewhere.
"Not at all!" said the broken-legg'd man.
"Then where," I asked him, "is it? Did a tiger bite it off?
Or did you get your foot wet when you had a nasty cough?
Did someone jump down on your leg when it was very new?
Or did you simply cut it off because you wanted to?"
"Not at all!" said the broken-legg'd man.
"What was it then?" I asked him, and this is what he said:
"I crossed a busy crossing when the traffic light was red;
A big red car came whizzing by and knocked me off my feet."
"Of course you looked both ways," I said, "before you crossed the street."
"Not at all!" said the broken-legg'd man.
"They rushed me to the hospital right quickly," he went on,
"And when I woke in nice clean sheets I saw my leg was gone;
That's why you see me walking now on nothing but a crutch."
"I'm glad," said I, "you told me, and I thank you very much!"
"Not at all!" said the broken-legg'd man.

I FOUND OMINATPEAIA IN THE HICKAU POEM
I FOUND REPATION IN THE NARATIVE POEM
1:Poem 2 is a haiku poem because it has three lines and 5 syllables on the first and last lines. The middle line contains 7 syllables and these type of poems rarely rhyme.
ReplyDelete1:Poem 2 is a haiku poem because it has three lines and 5 syllables on the first and last lines. The middle line contains 7 syllables and these type of poems rarely rhyme.
ReplyDeleteTask 1:
ReplyDeleteI choose the "Beaches" that is a haiku poem because it has 3 lines and 17 syllables. The poem follow the pattern:
Line 1-5 syllables.
Line 2-7 syllables.
Line 3-5 syllables.
Task 2:
I found 2 poetic techniques:
2 alliterations - when at least two words in the same row begins with the same letter (sand scatters, sandy shore)
2 descriptive languages - words that help the reader to imagine how something looks, sounds, smells, tastes or feel(blue water, sandy shore).
Task 3:
The Football Match
It’s raining all day!
The kids are playing football –
They just love to play!
1. Shape poem because the shape of the poem is a ghost.
ReplyDelete2. Alliteration because most of the words start with G; Personification because the ghosts are giggling and grabbing grasshoppers like humans; Descriptive language because it is describing what the ghosts are doing.
The ghost poem is a shape poem because the poem is shaped as a ghost. The broken legg'd man is a narrative poem because it is a story about how the man broke his leg. The beaches poem is a haiku poem because haiku poems normally have three lines In the ghost poem there are powerful verbs, descriptive language, alliteration. In the beaches poem there is a little bit of rhythm, descriptive language, personification, alliteration. In the broken legg'd man poem there is rhyme, repetition, rhythm, a little bit personification, descriptive language.

poem one is a shape poem and we know this from it's shape and structure.
ReplyDeleteThe author has used tecniques like rhyme, repetition and alliteration through out the poem.
The author has also used repetition of the "g" sound through out the entire poem making it rhyme.
"Golden grass gathering" is a good exapmle of alliteration, every word starts with a g repeating this sound helps the reader creat a vivid picture in their mind and help them follow.
I think the first one is a Shape poem because it is about a ghost and it is shaped exactly like a ghost and it is white like a ghost.
ReplyDeleteI think the second poem is a Haiku poem because it has three lines and it has five syllables in the first line, seven in the second and five in tI he last line.
I think the last one is a narrative poem because it is telling a story about the poet.
The first poem has a aliteration in it which is golden grass and also uses descriptive language to describe what the ghost is doing.
The second poem uses descriptive language to describe a beach and there is also an aliteration to describe the shore.
The third poem has rhyme, repetition and rhythm.

The weather is a nice and beautiful day it was very sunny and people have so much fun in that weather.
ReplyDeleteThe haiku from the poem was 6,4,3 symbols then it had rhythm it the heart of a seed berried deep so deep a tiny plant lay fast asleep it had nothing else because it was a short poem.

I think the Haiku poem is related to the poem called Beaches.
ReplyDeleteThe Narrative poem is related to the Broken Legg'd Man.
Ghost is the shape poem.
I chose the Haiku poem, this is because there 5 Syllables in the first line, 7 syllables in the second line and 5 syllables in the third line. Syllables are words which sounds like 2 words in them.
In the Haiku poem I found alliteration, interesting adjectives, descriptive language and personification.
