Home task due Friday 20th January 2017

We hope that you have really enjoyed Maths week this week. As we have experienced lots of different activities this week we would like you to write a short review (a paragraph) of Maths week.

You need to think about:

  • What did you enjoy?
  • What could have been better?
  • Do you have any new ideas we could include next year?
Topics you could talk about are:
  • Your pirate themed Maths lessons
  • Your visit around the Maths Trail
  • When Year 5 came to teach you
I look forward to reading your reviews!

  1. I enjoyed when we helped pirate peat find the treasure on the map. It would be better if we had more of the same thing to do because I really enjoyed it. Next year we should do absolutely maths and no literacy, science and any other types of work. The maths trail was very wired because near the office there was 1 stuck on another. I really enjoyed when the year 5s came to teach us about cm, mm and km mostly when we made the boats!

  2. My maths week.
I enjoyed when we're making a pirate ship out of 3D shapes. It was fantastic. The maths trail would have been better if we done more tasks in our group.
Next year I would like to include body measuring and measuring items. I would also like to do an epic hoolahooping game. Each person has a go in hoolahooping and individual scores of how many times everyone managed to hoolahoop are added into total. Whoever has the biggest number wins.

  3. I enjoyed doing maths week
because i like maths but they were to tricky
for me.It could have been better if
we will be in year 4,5,6. I think we will have
    certifecates.
We could includ next year to have medium
maths some tricky and some not tricky.
    I liked Maths Trale because
we went with year six but i really liked it because
when we went outside and right away we round to Mr Wright's
office and there was so cold than we went outside again than
    we remembered that we
need a pencil and a ruler but we needed
one hundred rulers to measure all of the
play ground thirstly ten m long.
when we went on the most important
    it was busy.
Than ower time has left so we all
    went to ower classes.

  4. Maths week was really good fun. The day I enjoyed the most was Friday, when the Year 5 came to teach us. Making our own ships, putting them in buckets of water and estimating how many cubes can fit into the ship before it will start to sink, was my favourite activity. Nothing could have been better except the weather. It was a bit cold. My suggestion for next year, Maths week is a football topic and lots of multiplication and subtracting activities.

  5. I enjoyed everyday of maths week, I especially enjoyed making friends and working as a team. I think that the math trail can be better because there was not enough time to get to the next question. Next year I would like to add in some potions and measuring liquids and ingredients. But what I really loved about it was Year 5 teaching us because I learnt a lot of new things and was perfect as I got everything right.

  6. Maths week
I really enjoyed maths week. The thing I enjoyed the most is the maths trail when my group went around the school and we had to answer questions.
I suggest to extend the time for year 5 students to teach us could’ve been better because we didn’t finish the lesson. Next year, I wish you could include more pirate themed lessons to maths week because I had tremendous fun during the lesson.

  7. I really enjoyed when we went to 5DR on Friday to learn more about millimetres, centimetres, metres and kilometres. The best part was when me,kian and luxon measured the whole playground and we also used the technique to measure the playground we used the stride and the trundle wheels. I think in maths
week that we should also include more maths and not include too much literacy, science and topic. I think we should make our maths trail a bit different for example:maybe next year we should do a topic trail a Literacy trail a science trail or a educational trail that inspires you.

  8. LAST WEEK WAS MATHS WEEK AS WE ALL KNOW. LAST WEEK I ENJOYED IT WHEN the YEAR 5 CAME TO TEACH US. I FOUND IT VERY INTERESTING BECAUSE I LEARNED HOW TO USE A PROTRACTOR.
BUT THE MATHS TRAIL WASN’T VERY GOOD BECAUSE WHEN SOME OF US DID ONLY 2 ACTIVITIES IT WAS TIME TO GO BACK. NEXT YEAR WE COULD DO THE MATHS TRAIL IN THE MORNING SO THAT WE CAN HAVE MORE TIME.
NEXT YEAR INSTEAD OF LEARNING ABOUT 3D WE COULD MAKE A 3D SHAPE game on scratch then we could test it out. Or make models of 3d shapes out of clay.

  9. My Maths week wasn't so bad as I thought. I was thinking that we will be doing lots of Maths, including multiplication and division, which I don't really like it. But I was pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed as it was full of fun every day . My best day was when we spent together with Y5 and they showed us how to make paper boats and made them float in the buckets full of water. My suggestion for next year to have Sience week and more fun days with crazy experiments.

  10. Overall I enjoyed the maths week, my favorite task was making the ships putting them in the water and seing which one will sink first.
I would like if maths work was more fun and interactive not just questions to answer for exaple, more story based questions.
I didnt enjoy the maths trail, I preferred activities that were more fun like make the paper boats.
I was a fan of working with the year fives and it would be fun working with tchem again.
For next year it would be better if we had more lessons on creating things out of paper.

  12. I enjoyed it very much.I had so much fun on maths week. My best part of maths week was the maths trail. We had different tricky maths questions. The thing that might be better in the maths week is that there could be something easier because some of the questions were very difficult. Also the year 5 questions could be easier as well. When Year 5 came we started with questions which looked very easy but they were much harder than they looked.
I think, the things you can include are:
    - some questions about the time,
    - more questions about 2D and 3D shapes.
My pirate maths lesson was funny and tricky, but I still enjoyed it. The maths trail was fun but it had hard questions and we couldn't get the exact measurement.I had so much fun and I hope the next time it will be even better.

    2. Stars: good use of adjectives, example: tricky, hard, easy, funny.
Wish: can you think of other adjectives to replace "hard"?

  13. Last week was Maths Week as you all know. Unfortunately, I missed Maths week because I went to the ski trip in Switzerland. But as far as I know, the year 5s came to teach us. I think that sounds super fun. Last year when the year 5s came I really enjoyed it so obviously I would enjoy the year 5s teaching us this year. Before Maths Week I was thinking if we could learn coordinates again. I think coordinates are fun and challenging. Next year, I would like to create some potions with juice.

  14. Ski Trip

    Introduction
My writing is about the ski trip that me, Sanchita and 64 more people went on. I found out about this trip in 2015, I was really looking forwards to it. Finally it was time to go! This is how my story starts…

    Going To Torgon
I woke up at 4:00 am and we were expected to leave the house at 6:15. We walked all the way to school. Then the driver waited until everybody was in the coach. Finally we set off for Torgon at 7:00 am.

    The coach

The coach was crowded because there were lots of people. When we were in the coach I started to colour in a sticker book. I had a nap for a little while. Finally we reached Gatwick airport.

    The airport
When we went to the airport, we had to do the check in first. After that I had my breakfast with my friends at the airport waiting area. And after the security check we went to the aeroplane gate and boarded the plane.

Ski Resort and learning how to ski
Unfortunately there was not enough snow in Torgon so we have to travel 90 minutes every day to ski at the Pre La Joux ski resort in France. Skiing is a very tough sport. Being on the skis and those heavy boots was very exhausting but I enjoyed every bit of it. I didn’t enjoy the food there but the evening activities organized by the staff were very exciting. It was snowing most of the days and I even tried eating the snowflakes.

    The journey home
On Saturday early morning, it was time to say Good Bye to Torgon and all the lovely members to staff who were there with during the week. Our wonderful week came to an end with a journey home on coaches and the plane. I wish we get more opportunities like this in the future.

  16. I loved maths week because we got to do a maths trail with the older children. We estimated how long both the playgrounds were combined, and my estimate was very close.
I really enjoyed it when we made the paper boats to see how much weights it could take. My boat could hold 36 cubes before it sank.
Next year I would like to learn more about estimation, and also have the whole day to do the trail.

  17. when I went to 5dr I had a great time there measuring how long thing are Yusuf and ksenia were my partners. They had the meter stick and measured benches and how long thing were. The people in 5dr said "we have boats. There was three paper cardboard, paper and sugar paper ksenia used sugar paper I used paper and Yusuf picked card board when we made the boat we started at sugar paper only 53 cubes went inside next we done card board and 147 went inside then then we had no time left so we didn't do normal paper. Then we had free choosing.

  18. Nidhi , I love maths week but the best part I enjoyed was making paper boats with year 5 and seeing how many cubes it could hold, my boat holded 13 cubes before it sank.

I would like to include times and divisions sums next year.

  19. My maths week was the best week.My favourite part was we made paper boats and made them float in water.my one was able to hold seven cubes at a time.
We had a maths trial which was a fun lesson for all of us.I wish to have a maths trial next year as well because this year I really enjoyed it.

Maths week was my favorite week. Because, they taught us a lot. We had to find out how much money you had to go to a library. Second of all, we had to decide how many nine boxes need to be measured.
